Manufacturing Engineer (Jr Melting)

Your Contribution

  • Formulates glass compositions and melting, forming, annealing, and processing parameters for glass production, scales up manufacturing processes from development scale to pilot scale to full manufacturing and develops, implements, evaluates, and improves existing and new chemical and mechanical processes for manufacturing glass products of the Advanced Optics (AO) business unit.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency utilizing Lean principles.
  • Monitors all aspects of glass quality and adjusts process parameters to continuously improve production results.
  • Communicates work instructions, process information, and results clearly to the shop floor, develops standard work procedures and process flow diagrams for production processes, maintains production records and performs technical analysis regarding melt and job sequencing.
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods and confers with vendors to determine product specification and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Applies statistical methods to continuously improve production processes, prepares manufacturing cost quotations, requisitions necessary engineering and maintenance work to realize production schedules.
  • Maintains flexibility regarding hours of work, and manages special projects as assigned.
  • Synthesizes complex or diverse information, collects and researches data, uses intuition and experience to complement data and designs work flows and procedures.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully. Works well in group problem solving situations. Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Writes clearly and informatively. Presents numerical data effectively. Able to read and interpret written information.
  • Develops and implements cost saving measures.
  • Observes safety and security procedures.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor Degree (B.S.) in chemical engineering or materials engineering
  • 3-5 years in a manufacturing, B.S. with 1-3 year experience
  • Proficiency in Six Sigma and Lean methodologies preferred
  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgement, supports decisions with reasoning and facts
  • Able and willing to work with others on a team.
  • Prioritizes and plans work activities, sets goals and objectives and meets productivity standards
  • Ability to work with all personnel within the organization.
  • Ability to support department and corporate policies and goals.
