Group Data Privacy Counsel (m/f/d) for 12 months

1. Key responsibilities

  • To work with Group Compliance Director to ensure overall compliance with data privacy laws in all jurisdictions.
  • To develop and manage Ardagh’s data privacy compliance governance, including: developing and updating policies and procedures
  • managing Ardagh’s data privacy governance, including: running European national working groups (working groups include representatives from HR, IT and other relevant functions in each jurisdiction); running European Data Privacy Committee; attending and/or supporting other regional committees in North America, Brazil and Africa; and running the Group Data Privacy Committee.
  • working with Ardagh’s national data privacy working groups to ensure compliance with legal requirements (e.g. updating of data inventories/records of processing activities)
  • undertaking necessary risk assessments
  • monitoring compliance with GDPR
  • providing training to relevant sections of the business
  • To providing legal advice to the business on data privacy topics, including advising on data processing agreements, DPIAs and DTIA.
  • To work as a team with Group Legal & Compliance counsel in North America, Brazil and Africa to ensure consistent approach to data privacy across Ardagh and ensure compliance with data privacy laws in those jurisdictions. 2. Most important result areas
  • Developing and managing the Group’s Privacy programme and coordination of the Group’s data privacy programme globally.
  • Advising the business on data privacy topics.
  • Continuous control of the costs for the legal function/external counsels and continuous improvement of the quality of the legal advice rendered by Group Legal & Compliance. 3. Nature and size of the job area The job requires profound data privacy experience who can provide legal advice in various jurisdictions on such laws. The job requires excellent knowledge of EU data privacy laws, and an ability, with the assistance of other members of Group Legal & Compliance and external local counsel, to advise on data privacy laws in other jurisdictions. 4. The position in its organizational context
  • The position reports to the Group Compliance Director.
  • Currently the position has managerial responsibility for a working student .
  • Two other compliance counsel report to the Group Compliance Director and one supply chain manager 5. Assessment standards
  • Ongoing implementation of a robust Group compliance program, including policy development, risk assessment and training, with a focus on business ethics matters.
  • Continuous control of the overall costs for the privacy matters .
  • Satisfaction of the colleagues with the quality and time for the rendered legal advice. 6. Business contacts
  • Internal and external Data Protection Officers.
  • HR teams.
  • IT team.
  • Other functional areas, including sales, procurement and health and safety teams.
  • External lawyers in concerned jurisdictions.
  • Members of Ardagh’s Data Privacy Committee 7. Flexibility and decision making The position develops independent proposals on the ongoing development and implementation of a Privacy programme. On data privacy matters relating to other jurisdictions, the position coordinates with the lawyers involved in those jurisdictions. 8. General
  • Demonstrate commitment to the Ardagh core values through upholding our standards of business conduct, complying with Group policies and procedures and leading by example.

  • Ensure the execution of key internal controls, as relevant, within the area of responsibility.

Requirements

Education/ Training: Law degree/qualification in a European jurisdiction
Experience: At least 6 years of professional work experience in an international environment
Competencies:

  • Excellent knowledge of data privacy law
  • An interest in compliance and a capacity to adapt quickly to data privacy laws in new jurisdictions
  • Fluent in English and German; additional languages skills are a plus
  • Strong intercultural competences to interact with a team of lawyers of different jurisdictions
  • Strong communication skills to interact with commercial and operational teams
