The Scope
In 2020, the FSC members approved Motion 20 asking FSC to put Climate Change and Biodiversity loss as center stage in the implementation of the Global Strategy.
The Climate, Biodiversity & Restoration Manager will support the Senior CBR Manager ensure conceptual alignment and operational progress on the current and future activities in “Climate, Biodiversity and Restoration” (CBR), one of FSC's four priority actions for 2025.
This involves contributions to the development of a Board endorsed CBR Strategic Framework and related workplans, in particular in engagement and communication activities.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
The tasks will be varied, and will include:
- Collaborate with internal teams and consultants to ensure structure, alignment and consistent communication for CBR efforts within FSC and enhance synergies between workstreams.
- Support to the development of the CBR Strategic Framework and associated workplans: Provide input and conduct content reviews to ensure quality of deliverables.
- Organize and analyze results from consultations ensuring stakeholder input is integrated in drafts.
- Develop consultation reports.
- Plan, organize and develop materials for workshops, webinars, and side events to engage with different stakeholders.
- Monitor discussion channels to track key topics and ensure responsiveness.
- Develop communication materials to ensure consistent and aligned messaging on CBR-related topics for FSC members and other stakeholders.
- Prepare slide decks and reports for internal and external use.
- Develop a system for monitoring, measuring, and evaluating the progress on the implementation of the CBR Strategic Framework.
- Support the implementation of the CBR Strategic Framework.
- Support the integration of the CBR Strategic Framework in the FSC Global Strategy.
- Support the analysis of feasibility of CBR related motions and initiatives.
- Represent FSC externally in meetings and events.
- Additional tasks as agreed with the supervisor.
Your profile
- University/technical college degree in climate science, conservation, forestry, environmental sciences, sustainability, or a related field.
- Training in Project Management, Communications, and/or Business Administration is a plus.
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following: multi-stakeholder processes, climate, conservation, and/or restoration global initiatives.
- Experience in developing strategic frameworks, policies, or action plans is a plus.
- Experience working in international organizations, NGOs, or sustainability-focused initiatives.
- Familiar with FSC certification.
- Familiar with international environmental policies, standards (e.g., CBD, UNFCCC, IPBES), and best practices is a plus.
- Strong facilitation skills to lead discussions, workshops, and consultations is a plus.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to assess complex topics, compare options, and propose evidence-based recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to guide content discussions and prepare clear and compelling communication materials and reports.
- Good time management skills as well as strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, indigenous peoples, NGOs, and industry representatives.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written). Spanish or French is a plus.
- Solution- and service-oriented attitude to work.
- Good skills in the use of/experience with standard software packages (MS Office).
- Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.
- Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.
The Fine Print
- Location: Bonn, Germany.
- Working Hours: Full-time hybrid (2 days p/w in our Bonn office). Option for >80% part time.
- Duration of contract: 2 years, with the intent to go open-ended.
- Travel: the position may include sporadic travel
